Why Authority Nutrition?
If you’ve ever spent time looking for health information online, then you’ve probably realized that the advice is conflicting and that no one seems to agree on anything.
All of the gurus have a product to sell and most opinions are more about belief and personal experience than facts.
The main goal of this site is to search the scientific literature for true answers, preferably from randomized controlled trials, which are the gold standard of research.
Then the science is deciphered to make it understandable by professionals and laypeople alike. Every effort is made to be objective, unbiased, honest and to present both sides of the argument.

Authority Nutrition has grown incredibly fast since it was launched in December, 2012. It now gets millions of visitors per month and has become a major player in the online health and nutrition scene.
There is now an entire team of experts that contributes to the site.
Kris Gunnars, CEO and Founder. BSc in Medicine
Kris is a nutrition researcher with a Bachelor’s degree in medicine. He has spent years reading books, blogs and scientific studies on nutrition.
Evidence-based nutrition is his passion and he plans to devote his career to informing people about it. He stays fit by lifting weights, taking walks and eating real food.
Role: Writer and chief editor.
Atli Arnarson, PhD in Human Nutrition
PhD in nutrition from the University of Iceland and BSc in biology. Has considerable research experience but also enjoys writing nutrition articles for the general readership.
Keeps fit by hiking in the Icelandic wilderness and pursues nature photography in his pastime, while transforming into a bedroom musician when the weather is bad.
Role: Writer and chief nutrition expert.
Adda Bjarnadottir, MSc in Human Nutrition
Adda has a BSc and a Master’s degree in human nutrition from the University of Iceland.
She stays fit by enjoying time with her family and two sons, eating healthy and by going to the gym doing cardio and lifting weights, with the occasional crossfit exercise.
Joe Leech, MS. Dietitian
Joe studied for over five years in both Australia and Finland, and in 2011 graduated with a Master’s Degree in Nutrition & Dietetics.
Although “based” in Sydney Australia, he travels most months of the year. To keep healthy on the road, he performs body-weight exercises and always makes time to cook.
Ragna Oskarsdottir, MBA, BEd
MBA from the University of Iceland and BEd in mathematics and physics. Worked as a teacher for many years, and was principal at a business school.
Ragna has managed to lose 20 kg (45 lbs) on a real food based diet, and she stays in shape by hiking in the Icelandic mountains, running and working out.
Role: Keeps everything running smoothly.
Mark Shields, BSc
Mark Shields holds a B.S degree in Exercise Science and is a Precision Nutrition Level 1 Nutrition Coach. He currently works at an active senior center as the Wellness Coordinator.
He has seen the damage that has been done by telling people to avoid healthy, traditional foods. He keeps fit by lifting weights, outdoor volleyball and hiking with his dogs.
Role: Manages the Facebook page.
